The only reason I vote is because those who came before me sacrificed and died to give me that privilege, also all around the world people are still sacrificing and dying to get the ability to vote in a fair and open election. By the numbers 20 -25% of the electorate elects our representatives. Our current system has been broken an outdated for over a century but having the power to change the system sit within the two parties who are in complete control means it is almost impossible to get any sort of real reform when it comes to campaign/ electoral reform.īasically with winner takes all elections we haven’t had a true majority winner probably ever. 40-60% of the people are consistently disillusioned and for good reason. The results are voter turnout rates just above 50% in Presidential election years and below 50% in off presidential years. This happens because the two factions are representing a smaller and smaller block of people who are going to support them no matter what. There has always been ugly battles between major two parties in our capitals but as the representation of average people goes down so does the civility. What we have is total symptom of disconnect from the average person in America with are so called “representation” in our capitals. ![]()
